Philip C. Stahl

Mr. Stahl has more than thirty-five years of litigation and alternative dispute resolution experience. Areas of concentration included professional liability (attorneys and accountants), insurance coverage (mass tort, environmental, D&O, E&O), and fiduciary duty (attorneys, partners, directors and officers).

From the mid-1990s through the present, Mr. Stahl has focused on resolving, through negotiation and mediation, claims involving attorney malpractice (representing clients, attorneys and insurers), insurance coverage, and fiduciary duty (inside and outside counsel and partnerships). Most cases involved mediation of pending litigation. Several multi-million dollar attorney malpractice claims were resolved pre-suit.

For over twenty years, Mr. Stahl has represented national and international law firms, including members of the Attorney Liability Assurance Society, defending against legal malpractice and breach of fiduciary duty claims. He has also represented former clients of major firms in malpractice and breach of fiduciary duty claims that resulted in multi-million dollar recoveries for his clients.

Mr. Stahl is a graduate of the Mediation Skills Training Program at Northwestern University’s School of Continuing Education. He has developed and presented courses, certified for continuing legal education in Illinois, in negotiation and mediation. Mr. Stahl is the Illinois Contributor to the Legal Malpractice law review (www.legalmalpracticelawreview.com).

Mr. Stahl received his J.D. summa cum laude from George Washington University Law School in 1974. He is admitted to practice law in Illinois and the District of Columbia. He is a member of the Trial Bar of the United States District Court, Northern District of Illinois. He is also a member of the bars of the U.S. Supreme Court and the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Fourth, Sixth, Seventh and Eleventh Circuits.

As a matter of policy, Mr. Stahl does not disclose the names of clients or adverse parties. References are available upon request.
